FAQs – Vienna, VA
Got a Question? Let Us Know!
There are many dental treatments, techniques, and technologies available in dentistry today, but many people don’t even realize they exist until their dentist tells them about it. We want to make sure all of our patients are thoroughly informed on which dental treatments are right for them, which is why we’re happy to include a detailed FAQ section below, as well as our responses. If you have additional questions, we’d be happy to help; simply give us a call!
How long does a crown take to make?
Traditionally, dental crowns would take about two weeks to complete, but that is not the case when you visit Tyson Smiles. Here, we provide patients with CEREC, a technology that allows us to design and fabricate dental crowns entirely in our office. Getting crowns in this way means that you don’t have to wait two weeks just to have your crown placed. It also means you don’t have to wear a temporary crown or bite into impression material just to get it made.
Do you place dental implants?
Yes! We perform both the restorative phase of treatment in the office as well as the surgical placement portion. Dr. Barakat has the knowledge and expertise to plan your dental implant treatment, place the implant in a safe and effective way that avoids your most sensitive oral structures and integrates properly, and place a natural-looking restoration on top. We can even replace all the teeth in your arch via implant-retained dentures or All-on-4 treatment!
How often should I visit for a checkup and cleaning?
Dr. Barakat recommends that you visit our office once every six months for a checkup and cleaning. This gives our office a chance to confirm the presence of certain dental issues, including tooth decay, tartar buildup, gum disease, early signs of oral cancer, eroded enamel caused by teeth grinding, and other issues that can appear during a routine exam. It also works to keep your teeth professionally clean, which is not something you can accomplish through at-home care alone.
Can I see you for a dental emergency?
If you’re experiencing severe tooth pain or oral injury, it’s likely that giving us a call is the next best thing you can do. However, if you are experiencing severe bleeding in your mouth that doesn’t stop or you believe that you have broken your jaw, it’s better that you visit an emergency room first. However, a cracked, chipped or knocked-out tooth or oral infection is better addressed by our office. The sooner you call, the more likely you can get seen by us the same day as your emergency.
I’m nervous about my treatment. How can you help?
We have multiple forms of sedation dentistry that you can take advantage of, including nitrous oxide, Iv sedation, and general anesthesia, the last of which is typically only found in hospitals. All of them are ideal for managing varying levels of anxiety during your appointment.
My jaw hurts. Is there a treatment for me?
Yes! Dr. Barakat can not only help you diagnose potential bruxism or TMJ disorder, but he can also provide treatment entirely in-house. Bruxism can be managed with a custom-made nightguard, while TMJ disorder can be treated via equilibration, occlusal adjustments, occlusal splints, and the TENS machine.
How should I straighten my teeth?
There are multiple solutions to straighten your smile at Tyson Smiles. The traditional route involves the use of metal brackets and wires and is ideal for all levels of misalignment and uneven bites. However, Invisalign can effectively shift teeth as well and do so in less time. Dr. Barakat will recommend the treatment that will most effectively address your unique case.
