DENTAL BRIDGES PROUDLY SERVING THE MCLEAN, VIENNA, AND TYSONS COMMUNITY
A dental bridge is a great option for treating tooth loss. It can be hard to deal with the ramifications of losing a tooth. Chewing your food becomes a chore. Things that were once fun to eat can be the source of pain. Many times, you will have a harder time speaking properly and people will notice a difference in the way you speak. The hardest thing to deal with is usually the loss of your beautiful smile. Dental bridges have the ability to give you all the normal functions of your teeth back!
Why a dental bridge?
Dental bridges accomplish almost all the same functions as your natural teeth. They hold your natural teeth in place, preventing a change in your bite. They give you the ability to chew your food with confidence. All this and they are one of the most cost effective tooth replacement options on the market.
Dental Bridge Procedure
A bridge is a permanent dental fixture that typically is anchored to the teeth or implants surrounding the site. If your natural teeth are still in place around the site and are stable and healthy enough to support a bridge, we can use them as the anchors. So, to create a bridge that will replace a single tooth, we will need to create what is known as a “three tooth bridge”. It is called a three tooth bridge because it involves the two teeth on either side of the missing tooth, plus the missing tooth itself.
The procedure for receiving a fixed bridge usually takes two visits to our office. During the first visit we prepare the teeth that will act as the anchors for the bridge and we will take an impression of the teeth that must be crafted to fill the gap. We will send the impressions to a dental lab so that they can create a bridge that will perfectly fit the gap in shape, size, and color. Before we send you home we will affix a temporary bridge so that you can start getting used to the feeling of having the fixture in your mouth.
On the second visit to our office we will remove the temporary from your mouth and fit you with the permanent. We will use a special and very long lasting bonding cement to ensure that it will last a long time. Before you leave our office we will make any precision adjustments that need to be made to ensure that the new bridge feels natural in your mouth.
The Dental Implant Option
Sometimes a patient will lack natural teeth to act as one of, or both sides of the bridge anchor. Have no fear! In this case we have the option of placing a dental implant which can act as the anchor for the bridge. Dental implants can help to stimulate the bone in your jaw to prevent bone loss.
