3 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Home Whitening Treatment

Whether you are going to buy a whitening system from your local drug store or are using whitening solutions from your dentist's office at home, there are a few steps that you can take to ensure you are getting the results that you want. By following these guidelines, you'll get the most out of your home whitening system.

Avoid Stain-Causing Substances

If you want to get a white smile, it is important that you are avoiding stain-causing foods and drinks while you are attempting to whiten. Dark drinks like coffee, wine, and soda should be avoided, and foods and candy that contain artificial coloring should also be eliminated from your diet.

Even after you've finished whitening you should continue to avoid these substances for a couple of days. Keep in mind that the more often you consume staining foods and drinks, the faster that your teeth will discolor.

Do Your Whitening Before Bed

The bleach that is used in home whitening systems can open the pores of your teeth for several hours. This means you shouldn't drink or eat anything at that time because you could be at an increased risk for staining, and you might wash away some of the bleaching agent before it has a chance to be absorbed by your teeth.

Get Dental Advice if You Experience Discomfort

When whitening at home, you shouldn't feel any discomfort or pain, but if you do, be sure to talk to your dentist. There could be an underlying problem that needs to be treated or corrected before you can continue on with the whitening process.

It is also crucial that you are following the instructions as listed on your home whitening treatment. By being compliant with those directions and following these tips, you should get the beautiful, white smile that you want.
